Please tell us a bit about your background. How did you get started in design?

Somewhat accidentally. I got a job at Blizzard Entertainment and wound up in their web department when they needed an English-speaking editor (I'm American). I'd done a lot of web coding and design with a friend in college and wound up doing more with Blizzard from 2004 - 2011.

Are you self taught or did you attend school for your industry?

I am largely self-taught as about ninety-nine percent of the languages in use now for web design/coding/scripting did not exist when I was in college.

What web browser do you use?

All of them. Predominantly Firefox and Chrome, though.

What social media do you use for work and play? Do you have a favorite?

All the social medias! I'm on Twitter, Facebook, G+, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, Yelp, Pinterest... in one form or another. You can generally find me under my personal name (G.K. Masterson) or my business name (Rebel Studios)

What is your favorite thing about the type of work you do?

It's fun? It lets me use my brain? Why is this even a question?

What advice would you give to someone looking to get into the web design field?

If you're looking to get into it to make a boatload of money, don't. Go into it because you like to solve problems. The money comes when you're good at that.

What`s your favorite development language and why?

UnrealScript if we're talking executable coding. HTML/CSS if we're doing web scripting because of the flexibility and universality.

If you could only use one language, which one would it be?

Web Scripting: HTML/CSS or HTML5
Programming: UnrealScript
Human: American Sign Language

What do you see as the most prominent emerging technology?

Machine learning and human interface for feedback systems

Who is your typical client at the moment and what types of projects are you working on?

Small and medium-sized businesses and I work on all manner of projects from web design to content creation and marketing projects

What advice would you give a client in order to prepare for a new project?

Have a fairly good idea of what you want to do and the budget you have to work with.

What is the most common problem you deal with when working with new clients who do not have much experience with working with designers?

Confusion over the terms, not explaining things well, getting confused and upset over placeholder images.

Do you use a CRM (Customer Relationship Manager) or any type of project management or proposal software?

No, I do not.

What is your standard hourly rate?

Do you have a minimum budget for a new client?

I'm fairly flexible but I do prefer to work with at least $300.00 per week for part-time work.
