What is your standard hourly rate?

Do you have a minimum budget for a new client?

Yes, For web design I prefer a minimum of $600.
For illustration, I prefer a minimum of $100.
For logo design, I prefer a minimum of $300.
For character design, I prefer a minimum of $250.
Others, subject to negotiation.

How long have you been with your company?

I started doing online business since 2001. But, I only get to own my company on September 2012. I created Ganah Solutions. Basically, I own the company for just 2 years, but I had more than 13 years on online business experience.

Are you self taught or did you attend school for your industry?

Most that I know in online business are self-taught. It is a product of extensive reading and researching from internet marketing, e-commerce, online payments, customer service, seo. I even had to learn how to set up a website using a hosting account. I tried everything I can try from affiliate marketing, referrals, article writing and many more.

What web browser do you use?

I have used several web browsers, but right now my default is Mozilla Firefox.

What social media do you use for work and play? Do you have a favorite?

I use Facebook to connect with friends and to showcase some examples of the works of our artists. I play Texas Holdem Poker through FB.

What is your favorite thing about the type of work you do?

Basically, I don't design. I manage and communicate with clients and establish contract. The most important thing that I value in this experience is the development of unexpected friendship. That's something to treasure for.

What advice would you give to someone looking to get into the web design field?

Web design is a dynamic field. You don't stop learning new things. Keep on reading. Keep on practicing, experimenting, testing. Upgrade your skills if possible. Learn new technologies. Don't be stagnant. Be bold.

What`s your favorite development language and why?

I am not into web development, but as per my experience talking to my team, I would say PHP. and MySQL. We hand code everything.

If you could only use one language, which one would it be?

Personally, I would prefer the C programming language: powerful, robust and quite easy to handle for me.

What do you see as the most prominent emerging technology?

I don't have really anything in mind. What I simply do is have my eyes on Google who usually set the online business trends. I also have my eyes on Apple.

Who is your typical client at the moment and what types of projects are you working on?

Most of my clients are small businesses online. Most projects are mascot design, logo design and some web design. I have some natural tendency to offer my services to web hosting companies. But, I would be glad to receive clients who need branding for other businesses like real-estate, law firms, resorts, spas, hotels, etc. I just like to have any type of client. I am after on the possible friendship opportunities.

What advice would you give a client in order to prepare for a new project?

Simple. Make sure you know your needs. Get all the details ready. Be certain that you have the right budget for the project. Ask around for more background. Study carefully the portfolio of possible designer. Don't settle for cheap, inexpensive design fees. Go for quality and go for the designer who is willing to grow with your company.

What is the most common problem you deal with when working with new clients who do not have much experience with working with designers?

The most annoying thing that most new clients request is a mock-up before they even hire you. They should have taken a look at the portfolio and not require a test of skills by having a mockup done. It is a waste of time and unfair to us design companies.

Do you use a CRM (Customer Relationship Manager) or any type of project management or proposal software?

So far, I don't have such CRM software. I just depend on plain emails and maybe some telephone calls. I don't even support chat because of time zone difference issues.

Please tell us a bit about your background. How did you get started in design?

I'm a chemical engineer by profession, but I have a passion for online business. I am more into marketing, seo, customer service, computer programming. However, I see a potential for offering design services. So I gather a team of real artists (mostly fine arts or architecture graduates) and ask them to hone their skills in digital software. We shall offer various design services for international clients. The purpose is to help them support their families and sustain their career as artists. The result? A solid team of excellent graphics design providers with skill sets at par with most professional graphic artists.
