Please tell us a bit about your background. How did you get started in design?

My background was originally in electronics but one of the first companies I worked for needed someone to work on their website as well, so I took the task. Writing everything originally in HTML, my programming and website and web based application development progressed to ASP / MS Access to now PHP / MySQL which I have been working with for over 15 years.

How long have you been with your company?

Divinely Designed Web Services was created about 15 years when I was requested to build a website for one of my first clients.

Are you self taught or did you attend school for your industry?

Originally attending college for electronics, I learned how to program in assembly language as well as C++ to integrate circuit boards with computer system. That progressed to web development with ASP / MS Access to PHP / MySQL.

What web browser do you use?

I primarily work with Google Chrome, but I test all my website and web based application out on Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari.

What social media do you use for work and play? Do you have a favorite?

I usually use Facebook for social media, both for work and play. I've found that the majority of my demographics for my business are on Facebook.

What is your favorite thing about the type of work you do?

My favorite aspect of the type of work I do is that it allows me to be creative in solving people's and company's problems.

What advice would you give to someone looking to get into the web design field?

Learn and create projects in all the popular software languages like, Java, .NET and PHP. If you know these languages and their syntax well your job opportunities greatly increase.

What`s your favorite development language and why?

My favorite development language is PHP. I've found that it's more stable and prone to less memory leaks like Java has. The other reason is that all the open source environments support PHP where as .NET requires a windows platform which can be expensive.

If you could only use one language, which one would it be?

I would use PHP for everything that I would do.

What do you see as the most prominent emerging technology?

I would say affordable cloud technology seems to be the most prominent emerging technology.

Who is your typical client at the moment and what types of projects are you working on?

My typical client at the moment are small to medium size businesses that are looking to either start selling their products on the internet or are looking for web based application to replace their excel spreadsheet.

What advice would you give a client in order to prepare for a new project?

Think about what you're wanting to present to your customers and how and check out how other companies do similar things with their websites possibly more efficiently.

What is the most common problem you deal with when working with new clients who do not have much experience with working with designers?

The most common problem I find is that people don't understand how websites are laid out and their different components. Usually one of the first things I do with a client is explain the components, where they are and what they usually do.

Do you use a CRM (Customer Relationship Manager) or any type of project management or proposal software?

Yes, I use a CRM application for keep track of my clients, their domains and their billing.

What is your standard hourly rate?

65

Do you have a minimum budget for a new client?

No, I try to gauge each client's request independently and then provide an appropriate quote.
