About Me: I began my professional life as a mechanical engineer. Over time, I discovered that the tasks I most enjoyed were the ones that required me to create computer graphics for presentations or for the web. For a while I was able to make this sort of activity a large part of my job--creating logos and web pages for organizations and acquisition programs, creating Flash animations and simulations, and even doing some 3-D modeling. The opportunities for doing creative work grew less frequent over time as those tasks became increasingly outsourced. My job satisfaction began to suffer and I made a decision to pursue my passion. I resigned from my job and went back to school to earn a degree in graphic design. My training as an engineer remains an asset to me as a designer in that I am able to look at designs in a systematic way--defining requirements, ideating potential solutions, and selecting the optimum or most elegant solution. I believe that my technical background also allows me to learn new software skills more quickly and easily.
