At Hunter Creation, we provide the following types of Editorial Services:
Level 1 is an intense look at the structure and content of the copy. What is the intention and purpose of the publication and does the copy serve that purpose? Who is the audience and is the copy written appropriately for that audience? Does the structure and general content of the copy flow in a way that makes sense? Have all of the appropriate questions been asked?
Level 2 is a close look at the overall technical content of the copy. Are all technical terms clearly defined for the intended audience? Are there any areas were further information is needed for clarity? Are there any major grammatical or spelling errors? Does the copy feel complete? Are all of the appropriate questions answered in a complete, clear, and concise way?
Level 3 is a scrutiny of the formatting and style of the content. Does the copy match the chosen style guide (such as The Chicago Manual of Style)? Does the copy match the publisher's in-house or company style guide? Are all formats being applied consistently and appropriately? Are all words spelled correctly? Is correct and proper grammar being used throughout the copy? This level includes a light, preliminary look at the Index and Table of Contents to be sure that any obvious errors, such as page number references, are discovered but is not intended to be a thorough scrutiny of these lists.
Level 4 is a close look at the Index and Table of Contents. Have all Index or Table of Contents entries been formatted properly? Have all relevant topics been either indexed or included in the Table of Contents? Are these lists easy to use?
We offer traditional proof-reading services, as well. Proof-reading is designed to ensure that all requested changes have been properly entered into the copy. If you provide us with the hard-copy mark-up of your text and a hard-copy print of the updated text, we will cross-check each of the requested changes to ensure that they have been accurately incorporated into the copy.
In addition to our Editorial and Proof-reading services, we can offer support to writers of fiction or non-fiction in the form of a coaching or supportive relationship. We can provide positive, constructive feed-back for writers of both fiction and non-fiction at various points, including positive feedback on early work, honest and constructive reaction on later drafts intended to help the copy achieve the author's goals, and project-specific detailed scrutiny as defined by the author. We offer support to authors in structuring projects, working through the dry-periods, and staying excited about long-term projects.
