DQ News: How to Failproof Your Business, Episode 3: Social Proof, or Cool + Right + Specific = Money

Here’s the most obvious secret in the world: nobody in the world is going to put up a sales page saying “so, I’m kind of awful and this product sucks” if they actually want you to buy the product. Of course they’re going to tell you how cool they are and how awesome their product is. We expect that. It’s baseline.

But when we start seeing other people saying “hey, Bob Smith is cool” and “OMG, Product X just changed my life” – people who aren’t connected to Bob Smith or Product X – then we start paying attention. If other people like us, outside observers, are responding positively, maybe there’s something to Bob. Maybe Product X is worth the $500 he’s charging. The more specific the response is, the better we respond.
