You may have noticed that I swear.
About once a week, I get an email calling me on this. “It’s inappropriate.” Maybe for Wall Street, but this is my fucking blog. (See what I did there?) “It’s a sign of a weak vocabulary.” No, it’s not. Limiting your word choices doesn’t make your vocabulary stronger, guys. I floccinaucinihilipilificate that objection (to be excessively sesquipedalian about the matter). “It makes your writing weaker.” Using words that people notice for emphasis makes my writing weaker? Right.
But my very favorite objection is “You’ll never sell anything if you swear on your blog.” No kidding, I get an email about once a month telling me that I can’t possibly successfully sell anything if I swear in my content or my sales material.
Stop for a minute and think about that. I. Will never sell anything.
The people who write these emails would be astonished to read the other emails I get. The ones that say, “Fuckin’ A. You should swear more. Don’t let the Puritans hold you back.” (For the record, I’m not.)
To these people, the swearing is a goddamn selling point.
And yet I’m never going to sell anything if I swear in my copy.
Funny how that works.
Tomorrow is Christmas, where we spend all of our money buying presents for other people and then spend all of our time trying to rationalize how the subscription to Cosmo makes sense for Uncle Al. This year, though, now that all the present-buying is done and while we’re still in a giving mood, I’d like you to take the time to get yourself a present. We think of this as the season of giving and thinking of others, but you won’t be able to do that as well unless you’re already taking care of yourself.
Personally, I think Dave’s Failproof Your 2011 Bundle is a pretty good Christmas present to give yourself. These are, remember, the courses that prepared me to sell out a $950-a-pop course of my own.
If you need more motivation, think about it this way: by buying yourself this present, you’ll be able to buy more presents for other people next Christmas.
That’s all I’m going to say about it. Buy yourself a present. Put yourself in a better position to take care of others. Have a merry Christmas.
Today’s video is about polarization, which is the fine art of making people hate you so you can make more money. It’s also about me getting Dave to say “Fuck you” on video, but don’t tell Dave that.
