It is often said the nice girl will not land on top, but Kelly Baker-Jamieson has proven them wrong. She is the founder of Edible Blooms, a successful edible gift arrangement located in Australia, reports Adelaide Now.
When no bank would lend her the money to start the business, Ms Baker-Jamieson, 34, sank her life savings into it, launching it in Brisbane in 2005, selling bouquets made from chocolates, cookies and fruit.
Within a year she had expanded to Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne.
“I was once asked in an interview `do nice girls get the corner office?’,” Ms Baker-Jamieson said.
“Yes, they do. My advice for women in business and women in general is to be an entrepreneur no matter what you do.”
It has been a busy time for Edible Blooms, which has moved its head office to new larger premises in Keswick, is about to launch a new website and is set to expand into the UK. “It’s about daring to dream big,” Ms Baker-Jamieson, who is now based at Victor Harbor, said.
