DQ News: Apple’s OS X Lion Sells One Million Copies in One Day

Apple’s new operating system OS X Lion is off to a “roaring” start in the Mac world. The freshly released and white hot new offering from Apple sold better than one million copies upon its first day of release, which was this past Wednesday.

Consequently, OS X Lion enjoys the lofty status as the fastest selling OS in Apple history.

Lion can be purchased and downloaded directly from Apple’s Mac App Store for $29.99.

It now appears that any apprehension about digital downloads possibly hurting sales of Apple’s new operating system was unfounded.

“Lion is off to a great start, user reviews and industry reaction have been fantastic,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide product marketing. “Lion is a huge step forward, it’s not only packed with innovative features but it’s incredibly easy for users to update their Macs to the best OS we’ve ever made.”

Word of Lion’s huge initial success follows Tuesday’s announcement by Apple boasting of record quarterly revenue and earnings – sales of $28.57 billion and earnings of $7.31 billion.
