DQ News: PRINCE2 Training for ‘best practice’ structured management

Get Design Bids

Splash You may well be new to project management, or perhaps your aim is to enhance your existing project management skill set. If this is the case, then possibly PRINCE2 training could be the best option to consider. PRINCE2 is a project management methodology that was designed to assist in the organisation and management of company projects.

I will briefly discuss the history of PRINCE2, what a typical course comprises and how it can benefit both you and your company. PRINCE (PRojects IN Controlled Environments) was established in 1989 by the CCTA (Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency), now renamed the OGC (Office of Government Commerce). PRINCE later evolved into PRINCE2 by a team of project management specialists who took the prototype to the next level. Project management is the process of planning, organising, staffing, direction, and controlling the production of a system. A structured project management method is the written description of a logical and organised approach, and PRINCE2 is a structured project management method that is flexible and can be tailored for use on any a variety of types and sizes.

=
During the trialling process, over 150 public and private sector organisations were involved in the reviewing of the method’s quality before its eventual release in October 1996. It has now become the de-facto standard for many companies in this country (UK) and beyond, and is seen as the ‘best practice’ system.

PRINCE2 Training

Training in PRINCE2 methodology explains the processes that are involved and the activities needed to take a project from start to finish. The focus of the training is on business justification and shows candidates how flexible it can be when applied to a project of any size. It helps to provide a defined structure for any project management team, and clearly demonstrates how structured management project should be conducted with measured approach to a beginning, middle and end.

=
If you are new to PRINCE2 Training, you should be looking at two possible options. The first option is the PRINCE2 Foundation training course and the second is the foundation course in conjunction with the PRINCE2 Practitioner training course. The latter choice leads to the attainment of the PRINCE2 Practitioner qualification – an industry-recognised achievement, and one that is necessary for entry into the industry.

==
The benefits of taking PRINCE2 Foundation training is being able to understand a structured approach to project management; enhance your CV and increase your career prospects.
The PRINCE2 Practitioner training course enables you to become a qualified PRINCE2 Practitioner. The PRINCE2 Practitioner course covers the processes, components, and techniques included in the PRINCE2 Project Management Method. The course prepares you for the APM Group examinations, and includes tuition led by qualified instructors, personal exercises, and case studies.

The objectives of the courses include the following:

  • How to adapt the PRINCE2 method to different projects.
  • Identify the terminology used in PRINCE2.
  • Apply PRINCE2 to your own personal scenarios.
  • Prepare for and sit the PRINCE2 Practitioner examination.

The benefits of undertaking PRINCE2 Practitioner course help you gain the necessary confidence to manage and participate in projects, gain experience of the main PRINCE2 techniques, and become a PRINCE2 Registered Practitioner.
To conclude, PRINCE2 has become the recognised standard for project management and all who are involved in the industry. Those professionals that have taken the examinations for the different levels have consistently spoken of the value that they have been able to obtain for themselves and their companies.
