DQ News: Central Park Zoo Teams with AT&T for Wi-Fi

It’s a jungle out there in world of Wi-Fi.

This week, Brooklyn’s Fort Greene Park and Manhattan’s Central Park Zoo turned on free AT&T Wi-Fi service, adding to the growing national trend we at MMW have observed at parks and zoos around the U.S.

It was just last summer when the company announced a partnership with the Bloomberg Administration to offer the service in parks across the five boroughs.

The wildly popular initiative, which even in the off-season has seen parks visitors making more than 4,000 connections per day, allows any Wi-Fi enabled smartphone and tablet user regardless of carrier to connect to the AT&T Wi-Fi network.

According to details announced Thursday, the New York City Parks Department is placing signs at each location to increase awareness among visitors.

“This initiative has been a huge success and we’re thrilled that visitors to New York City’s most popular parks can stay connected all year round,” said Tom DeVito, AT&T vice president and general manager for New York and New Jersey. “We look forward to bringing even more parks online in the coming months so that more smartphone and tablet users can take advantage of this service.”
