DQ News: United States Armed Forces Dig Social Media

Get Design Bids

Mobile Marketing United States Armed Forces Dig Social MediaThe brave men and women who wear our nation’s uniform are big fans of social media – especially, as it turns out, the new kid on the block, Pinterest.

According to published reports this week, the United States military is quite fond of social media. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the Army, where Pinterest is getting the salute from soldiers everywhere.

In addition to being ideal for soldiers who connect with family and friends while stationed away from them, social media is also a great tool for recruiting and showing prospective soldiers how exciting and rewarding a career in the military can be.

“All of our social media content is public domain and we encourage the public to share it openly,” Juanita Chang, director of the U.S. Army’s online and social media division, tells Mashable. “Pinterest helps to do that, as does our Flickr account and other sites.”

In addition to Pinterest, the U.S. Army is also into Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Flickr, and Google+.

Roughly two million people “like” the Army on Facebook and another 120,000 “follow” the Army on Twitter.

“We recognize that each social media platform has a different audience,” Chang admits. “With the growing popularity of Pinterest, we determined that there was a unique audience that we may not have been reaching through other social media platforms.”

How do you feel social media platforms can best be used by the branches of the U.S. armed forces today?
