DQ News: Five Star Holiday Decor Offers Entrepreneurs A Five Star Opportunity

Get Design Bids

While you’re busy taking down all of your holiday decorations this year, just imagine how nice it would be to have someone who would do that job for you. If you enjoy the work, imagine receiving money for taking down decorations around your neighborhood. That is the basic idea behind Five Star Holiday Decor. As their tagline states, they offer a five star holiday decor service without the five star price.

I recently had the opportunity to ask a few questions about the company and their Five Star Holiday Decor franchise opportunity.

Tell us a little about Five Star Holiday Decor.

Five Star Holiday Décor provides premium lighting and Christmas tree delivery services, taking the hassle out of people’s holidays so they can enjoy the aesthetic spirit of the season without having to deal with hanging lights or lugging a tree home.

What inspired it?

Five Star Holiday Décor is part of Five Star Franchising. Five Star Franchising began in 2000 when five lifelong friends franchised their own painting company called Five Star Painting. In 2008, they were inspired to create Five Star holiday Décor to unseasonalize their business and boost their bottom line during a traditionally slow time for painting.

Tell us a little about your franchise.

Five Star Holiday Décor was formed in 2008 to augment a Five Star Painting franchise. After experiencing great success with Five Star Holiday Décor, other Five Star Painting franchises adopted the business and now there are over twenty locations in the US and Canada.

What are your requirements?

$10,000 start-up fee, 5% royalty fee with a $2,000 annual minimum, and a call center fee for paid from October-December.

What separates your business from the competition?

We have built our reputation upon the principles of being clean, on time, and Earth friendly. We don’t leave a mess when we leave a site. We are punctual to every job and finish our jobs by the deadline. And we offer a light recycling program as well as make sure that every tree we deliver is either recycled or replanted.

I imagine the work Five Star Holiday Decor does is seasonal. Why should someone consider a seasonal franchise like yours?

A lot of our franchisees offer other services, such as painting, that have a slow season. This allows business owners to bring in revenue and keep their employees busy. It’s a great business to own in addition to other businesses since you can bring in a large profit over a few months and then return your focus to your primary business.

Do you have any goals you’d like to accomplish in the next year or so?

This year we sold more trees than we ever have before and next year we’d like to sell 100,000. We have a unique system in place to enable us to meet this goal, and we use tree delivery services to generate holiday lighting business—it’s a great foot in the door.

What are some lessons your business has taught you?

You’re never going to keep every customer happy. The best you can do is make a standard process for how to turn unhappy customers into happy ones. For us at Five Star Holiday Décor, we know going in that about 2% of our tree deliveries will have something go wrong. When this happens, we apologize, refund the money, and give them a free tree next year. We’d rather never make mistakes, but this goes a long way toward customer satisfaction.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Five Star Holiday Décor not only offers a unique service to its customers, but we also provide our franchisees with : professional marketing services, lead generation, estimation and customer management software, premium and ongoing training, and a 24- hour call center service.

Do you have any advice you’d like to offer anyone considering your opportunity?

For those people who really get into the spirit of Christmas and enjoy spreading holiday cheer, I can’t think of a better business to be in.
