DQ News: 4 Ways to Use a Blog for Your Small Business

Get Design Bids

Bloggin

As someone who runs a small business, you’re probably very aware of how important the Internet is to the health of your company.

Because of this, you know that you have to somehow get your business online. You probably have a great website built, you’ve created a Facebook page, and you probably Tweet. But the idea of blogging might scare you? After all, you’re created lots of content for a blog, and it’s content that might not always be usable in certain business contexts.

Perhaps the most important thing about publishing a business blog is that you keep the blog as focused and tidy as possible. Yes, it’s a great opportunity to connect with your clients and prospective clients; however, if the blog is not focused, then you’re going to devote far too much energy to keeping it going when that energy could be better used elsewhere.

If you’re still interested in the idea of publishing a business blog for your company, then take a look at some of these focused concepts to help you get started.

Troubleshooting and Customer Support

One way you can use your business blog is as a form of customer support. Essentially, you could have a way of answering questions from customers through a form, and then you could select one or two questions a day to answer on the blog. This could help specific customers with problems and it could also help develop your company’s brand as that of being very open and sensitive to customers’ concerns.

Behind the Scenes

Another great use of a company blog is to operate as a kind of ‘behind-the-scenes’ sort of publication, one that allows clients and potential clients get a feel for the people behind the operation of the company. You could feature various employees, you could publish a weekly column from the chief executive office, and you could have posts described various meetings and other events within the company that lead to how it works.

Industry News

Depending on the industry within which your company operates, you could easily present the blog as an industry news source. You could assign one employee to post updates regarding recent trends in the industry, and this would establish your company as one that keeps up with the news and is even responsible for reporting it to others interested in how well the industry works. Of course, you’ll have to leverage some connections in order to do this; however if you can set yourself up to be a news hub, then potential clients will see how credible and knowledgeable you are.

Client Guest Posting Opportunities

Finally, you could consider using the blog as a guest posting resource, which would allow you to ask customers and other clients to post their own thoughts to the blog. You’ll certainly want an editor to handle these submissions; however, this could be useful because it would give clients a chance to voice their own thoughts on your company and product. Then you could write a response to them.

Of course, all of these are merely ideas that you should consider or change as you see fit. And in some cases you may be able to combine them into one blog, depending on your manpower and how much you’re willing to devote to the project. In any case, good luck.
